Clinton County was established in 1810. Most of Clinton County’s 42,040 people live near the county’s seat, Wilmington, and near the Village of Blanchester.
Wilmington offers charm and character to its residents and visitors. The city’s streets are complemented by historic buildings and homes, shops, and churches. In 1870, the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) founded Wilmington College in the county, a liberal arts undergraduate and graduate college that takes pride in integrating the liberal arts, Quaker values, and career preparation. Nearly 150 years later, Wilmington College welcomes students to campus every academic year to experience the College’s unique learning opportunity.
Clinton County also claims to be home of the famous Banana Split dessert. The Banana Split tradition, dating all the way back to 1907, is kept alive today when Wilmington holds its annual Banana Split Festival. Festival attendees pay tribute to the 50s and 60s eras, enjoying booths filled with food, crafts, and collectibles.
Some of Clinton County’s major employers, include: Ahresty Wilmington Corporation, Alkermes, ABX Air, Clinton Memorial Hospital, Ferno-Washington, Nippon Seiki Co., Ltd., R + L Carriers, American Showa, Inc., and Wilmington College.
