STIVERS BLOG: June 2013
There is so much negativity today in the news and everywhere we look that it is always nice when we can pause to recognize good things that are happening in our community. I would like to take the opportunity to use this blog to highlight some of the positive events that are happening in Central Ohio.
Sacrificing for others is an admirable act, which is why I want to recognize Chris Walls from Wilmington, Ohio, for this month’s blog. After hearing about the damage done by the May 20th tornadoes in Oklahoma, Mr. Walls felt he needed to help. Mr. Walls lost everything in a fire a few years ago and felt he could especially relate to the victims in Oklahoma. What helped him get back on his feet after he lost everything was the support of our community in Wilmington and he felt it was his turn to forward the good deed. Although he has no close friends or family living in the affected area, Mr. Walls started a drive to collect supplies for victims of the tornadoes. With about 33,000 people affected by the tornadoes and the damages estimated to cost around $2 billion, all the supplies that were donated to Mr. Walls’ drive are sure to be greatly appreciated by those in Oklahoma. The drive collected all kinds of items, including water, toothpaste, and bandages. On top of it all, Mr. Walls and his wife drove out to Oklahoma on June 10th to personally deliver supplies to victims. I am very thankful for Chris Walls and the people of Wilmington, Ohio, for their acts of selflessness and kindness in helping the people of Moore, Oklahoma. Those still interested in helping the victims of the tornadoes in Oklahoma can donate online to the Oklahoma United Way Tornado Relief Fund by clicking here. |
