STIVERS BLOG: August 2013
There is so much negativity today in the news and everywhere we look that it is always nice when we can pause to recognize good things that are happening in our community. I would like to take the opportunity to use this blog to highlight some of the positive events that are happening in Central Ohio. Lonnie has served as a counselor at the Amputee Coalition’s Paddy Rossbach Youth Camp for five years, which was held this summer at Camp Joy Outdoor Education Center in Clarksville. At the camp, children who are amputees participate in activities like zip lining, basketball, and fishing – all while in the company of fellow amputees. For children, growing up can be difficult, especially when confronted with an added fear of being “different” from others. Through his work as a counselor and experience as an amputee, Lonnie inspires child amputees to build confidence, independence, and lasting friendships. Kids who attend the camp can focus on being kids. I am very thankful for Lonnie Nolt and his dedication to the youth in our community. His work is truly invaluable. You can learn more about the camp by clicking here, and you can read a full story on Lonnie from the Washington Court House Record Herald. |
