Recently, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released its Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress. This report provides a “point-in-time” count of homeless Americans, an estimate which is based upon the numbers collected on one particular night in January. The count includes homeless individuals living in shelters, and those identified by volunteers who survey places such as streets, parks, rail stations and all-night businesses where those who are homeless frequently seek shelter.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the March of Dimes cheered today's signature into law of the bipartisan Protecting Our Infants Act of 2015 (S.799), which takes much-needed strides to reduce the number of newborns born exposed to drugs, such as opioids, and to improve their care. Since the bill's introduction, all three organizations have worked together leading advocacy efforts for its swift passage, and view today's action as a legislative victory for mothers and newborns across the nation.

Every year, the Department of the Army holds the Army Best Warrior Competition to name the Soldier of the Year and the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year. Only 13 soldiers and 13 noncommissioned officers annually qualify for the competition. One of the participants this year, Staff Sergeant Christopher Thompson, is a native of Circleville, Ohio in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District.

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, the House passed a long-term highway funding bill, which included H.R. 299 – the Capital Access for Small Community Financial Institutions Act of 2015 – introduced in January by Representative Steve Stivers (R – OH) and Representative Joyce Beatty (D – OH).
