Stivers Announces Winners of Ohio's 15th District Congressional Art Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Stivers (R – Columbus) today congratulated the winners of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District Art Competition. The competition was held at The Ohio State University’s Wexner Center for the Arts on May 3, 2012 and included artwork from 59 high school students.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Steve Stivers (R – Columbus) today congratulated the winners of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District Art Competition. The competition was held at The Ohio State University’s Wexner Center for the Arts on May 3, 2012 and included artwork from 59 high school students.

“We had a tremendous turnout of high school students participating in this year’s Congressional Art Competition and I congratulate all the students who took part and placed in this year’s competition,” Stivers said. 

Braden Hoop won first place and is a senior at Grove City High School and is the son of Melissa Hoop. Braden’s work is titled “Beautifully Dead,” and is a photograph. The artwork portrays a black and white photo showing the leg, wing, and tail feathers of a deceased bird.

Jane Guo won second place and is a junior at Upper Arlington High School and is the daughter of Junyi Guo. Jane’s work is titled “Cycle of Communication,” and is an acrylic painting on cardboard. The artwork portrays four framed pieces of cardboard, each portraying the black silhouette of a human communicating through various different mediums. The artwork will be hung in Congressman Stivers’ Hilliard District Office for one year.

Chad House won third place and is a junior at Hilliard Darby High School and is the son of Brian and Patty House. Chad’s work is titled “Into the Night,” and is a photograph. The artwork portrays a girl posing in the rain. Chad’s artwork will be hung in Congressman Stivers’ Hilliard District Office for one year.

The goal of the Congressional Art Competition is to support and promote the arts and to foster creativity and artistic expression among our nation’s youth. The competition has been held annually since 1982 and has encouraged the artistic talents of over 650,000 high school students nationwide.
