Rep. Steve Stivers introduced legislation to name post offices after three Ohio service members who died in Afghanistan.
The bill would name the post office in London after Marine Lance Cpl. Josh McDaniels, who died on June 12, 2011. McDaniels, 21, was from Dublin and raised in Madison County. The facility at 25 S. Oak St. would be renamed the Lance Cpl. Joshua B. McDaniels and Veterans Memorial Post Office Building.
The bill would name the Grove City Post Office, 2539 Dartmoor Rd., after Ohio Army National Guard Master Sgt. Shawn Hannon, who died on April 4. He was from Grove City. The bill would call the Grove City Post Office the Master Sgt. Shawn T. Hannon and Veterans Memorial Post Office Building.
The post office at 3700 Riverside Dr. in Columbus would be named the Master Sgt. Jeffrey J. Rieck and Veterans Memorial Post Office after Rieck, a member of the Ohio Army National Guard who also was killed April 4.
“This is a small measure Congress can take to honor the lives’ of these three brave service members who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms,” said Stivers, R-Upper Arlington. “All three of these men deserve to be properly honored for their courageous service and I thank God every day that heroes like these stand on the front lines and protect our freedom.”
