U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers (R-Ohio) — who represents Ohio’s 15th Congressional District which includes Clinton County — will open a district office in the Wilmington Municipal Building on Monday, just four days after being sworn in to his second term as a U.S. Representative in Washington, D.C.
His office, located at 69 N. South St., Suite 178, will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sherry Stuckert will staff the office full time to assist constituents. The office telephone number is 937-283-7049, and the fax number is 937-283-7052.
Stivers will be in Wilmington on Monday for a tour of the Wilmington Air Park and the Wilmington College campus where he will receive a guided tour by Jim Reynolds, college president. Stivers also plans to spend some time Monday in his new Wilmington office.
“It is important to me that my staff and I are easily accessible to everyone so we can effectively provide constituents with the best service possible,” Stivers said. “I am excited to be representing Clinton County and to have an office in Wilmington.”
Stivers, who was sworn in on Jan. 3, said he wants to deliver good service without wasting taxpayer’s money. “I’m trying to be very judicious with the people’s tax money.”
The congressman said he will be paying $1 a year for the Wilmington office, which he called “a joint government center.”
Wilmington Mayor Randy Riley said the office will be open to all elected officials while they are in Wilmington.
“It’s a joint government use office. When they are in town, they can use the office. I think it’s great that it’s accessible for them. I’m delighted that Congressman Stivers is coming to town. I think he will represent us very well,” he said.
Stivers said he is honored to serve the citizens of Clinton County and Ohio’s 15th Congressional District. “I will work hard every day to make them proud,” Stivers said.
Stivers represents 12 counties in Ohio, including all of Athens, Clinton, Fairfield, Hocking, Madison, Morgan, Perry, Pickaway and Vinton counties, and parts of Fayette, Franklin and Ross counties.
“I have been listening and understand the concerns and challenges in our local area,” Stover said. “My priorities in the 113th Congress include supporting policies that create and promote jobs; cutting run-away-federal spending; and passing a Balanced Budget Amendment that will force the federal government to start living within its means.”
Raised in Ripley, Stivers has served more than 27 years in the Ohio Army National Guard and holds the rank of Colonel. He earned his bachelor’s degree and his MBA from The Ohio State University. He resides in Columbus with his wife, Karen, and children, Sarah and Sam.
Prior to running for Congress, he served six years in the Ohio Senate and previously worked in the private sector for the Ohio Company and Bank One, where he promoted economic development and encouraged job creation.
Stivers holds a position on the House Financial Services Committee.
