Republicans Pat Tiberi of Genoa Township, Steve Stivers of Upper Arlington, Bill Johnson of Marietta, Jim Jordan Urbana and Bob Gibbs of Lakeville joined 223 other lawmakers in voting tonight for the House budget resolution, which reduces the rate of growth in federal by $5.5 trillion during the next decade while boosting defense spending.

Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Jefferson Township, opposed the resolution, which also would repeal the 2010 health law known as Obama Care. There is little chance the law will be repealed as long as President Barack Obama remains in the White House.

Tiberi said the Republican budget “offers a stark contrast to the president’s budget; we’re promoting forward-thinking solutions, not continuing down the tax and spend path.”

Beatty, however, said the budget resolution “passed by a partisan vote today clearly demonstrates that the fractured and disarrayed Republican leadership is intent on pursuing an agenda that means Americans work harder to get less.”

The Senate is expected to vote on its version of the budget today. The budget resolution serves as a blueprint on how congressional Republicans would spend money during the next decade.
