WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Congressman Steve Stivers (R – Columbus) today sent a letter to President Barack Obama, urging him to immediately halt the admission of refugees from Syria and Iraq onto American soil. 110 Members of Congress signed on to the bipartisan letter.

“The first priority must be protecting U.S. citizens from harm,” Stivers said. “Our country has a proud tradition of opening its arms to those in need, but we must stop the admission of refugees until we have assurances that the individuals pose no threat to Americans.”

Early reports from the terrorist attacks in Paris suggest that at least one of the attackers came into Europe by posing as a Syrian refugee.  The letter urges the Administration to suspend admission of refugees in the United States until a thorough vetting process is established to identify individuals who pose a security risk. It also calls for an extensive monitoring process for all relocated refugees to ensure Americans are safe from potential threats.
