The following can be attributed to Congressman Steve Stivers (R-OH) regarding the House passage of the 21st Century Flood Reform Act:
“This legislation gives homeowners certainty and solid ground to stand on by reauthorizing the National Flood Insurance Program and incorporating reforms to more accurately measure flood risk,” Stivers said. “These reforms will reduce the number of properties that file flood claims every year and allow homeowners to purchase private flood insurance – as opposed to having their choices taken away by the current monopoly. The NFIP has borrowed over $30 billion from hardworking taxpayers, and these reforms are an important step in fixing this broken federal program.”
