WASHINGTON – Representative Steve Stivers (R-OH) has been named Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance.  He will work with Representative Wm. Lacy Clay (D-MO) who serves as the Chair of the Subcommittee.

“I’m ready to get to work to find pragmatic solutions to some of the most pressing issues facing our communities.  From combatting homelessness among our kids and our veterans, to supporting the more than 60,000 insurers in the Central and Southern Ohio regions and the tens of thousands nationwide, I’m proud to serve as the Ranking Member of this Subcommittee that can make real progress,” Stivers said.  “I’m grateful to Ranking Member McHenry for this opportunity, and I look forward to working with Representative Clay to find bipartisan solutions to strengthen our communities.”

“As we continue to explore ways to modernize government programs and improve our housing finance system, I have no doubt Ranking Member Stivers will lead this critical subcommittee with the same thoughtfulness and insight he has demonstrated as a leader this Congress. Steve’s commitment to right-sizing regulation to grow our economy and finding commonsense solutions that work for American consumers make him the clear choice for this role. I look forward to continuing to work with him in this new capacity,” Ranking Member of the House Financial Services Committee, Patrick McHenry (R-NC) added.

In addition to conducting oversight of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance will help support the growth of communities across the nation by encouraging economic development and homeownership, and handling matters related to housing finance reform, rental housing and rural housing.

The Subcommittee also has jurisdiction over government-sponsored insurance programs, including the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Terrorism Risk Insurance Program (TRIP).

“Ohio and the 15th District will always be my priority, and I look forward to using this new role to help folks achieve their American Dream,” Stivers added.
