COLUMBUS – Today, Representative Steve Stivers (R-OH) applauded the announcement of grant awards from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to two local community health centers in order to fight the spread of coronavirus and treat those with COVID-19.
The Fairfield Community Health Center has been awarded over $600,000, and the Columbus Neighborhood Health Center, Inc. has been awarded over $1.7 million. On March 27, 2020, Representative Stivers voted in favor of the Coronavirus Relief, Aid, and Economic Security (CARES) Act that appropriated the funds for these grants. Included in the package was $1.32 billion for community health centers, in addition to over $100 billion for hospitals and healthcare providers and $27 billion in funds for vaccines, therapeutics, and personal protective equipment.
“The most urgent issue Congress needed to address in combatting this pandemic was ensuring that the health care professionals on the front lines had the resources necessary to do their jobs,” Stivers said. “I’m grateful to see the CARES Act is already doing just that, and I’ll continue to work to ensure resources are available across the 15th District. Lastly, to all those working day-in and day-out to treat and care for our neighbors: thank you.”
Representative Stivers has been a longstanding supporter of community health centers, consistently advocating to fully fund these organizations through the annual appropriations process.
