WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last week, Representatives Steve Stivers (R-OH) delivered food to Ohio National Guard members stationed at the U.S. Capitol in preparation of Inauguration Day.

“Tens of thousands of National Guard members left their families, their loved ones, and their homes during these unprecedented times to support law enforcement in D.C. and to protect the Capitol,” said Rep. Stivers. “Last week, I got to spend time with some of these brave men and women from the Ohio National Guard who answered the call to serve.  The sacrifices they make to keep America safe will not go unnoticed.  To all my fellow guardsmen, thank you for being Always Ready, Always There.”

Almost 25,000 National Guard soldiers from across the nation were assigned by federal and state officials to deploy to Washington, D.C. ahead of President Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2020.  Their mission is to keep the U.S. Capitol building safe and to protect their fellow American citizens.  Since they arrived, these men and women have been working around the clock to assist U.S. Capitol Police, and other law enforcement in D.C. to support security related to the inauguration.

Some National Guard members will remain in Washington, D.C. for the coming weeks to assure safety following the inauguration and surrounding protests.
