The Season of Giving
“The manner of giving is worth more than the gift.” – Pierre Corneille
This December, as we rush from place to place and store to store, we need to take the time to pause and remember what is really important. In this tough economy there are families in our community who are still without a job or struggling to make ends meet. This season of giving offers many small ways to make a difference in the community and in the lives of others. Last month, I was grateful for the honor and privilege to pack and send boxes of goods to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, with Operation Buckeye.

During my time serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom with the Ohio Army National Guard, I was responsible for the mail mission in Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar and Djibouti, and ensured that soldiers received letters and packages sent from home. I was very moved when I saw how excited the soldiers became when a little taste of home was directly sent to them in the field. My time in Iraq was where I truly came to understand the impact of giving. While the items in the boxes may have seemed minor to others, soldiers received the best gift of all—appreciation, thanks, and love from home.
Every day, we Americans see the powerful effects of giving, because over 200 years ago our founding fathers worked hard to give us our freedom that we enjoy today, and I look forward to every opportunity to pay that precious gift forward. As a Member of Congress, I work hard on legislation that focuses on creating jobs, reducing government spending, and addressing our national debt, because my top priority is to represent the people of central Ohio and focus on the issues that matter most to you.
Have a safe and happy holiday season, and may God Bless you and your family. I would like all Ohioans in the 15th district to know that my office is here and ready to help you with any issues you may have throughout the year, so please do not hesitate to contact me in my Central Ohio District Office at 614-771-4968.
