A Grocery Store for Vinton County!
For too long, Vinton County has been without a grocery store, leaving residents to drive 30 minutes for fresh food.
That will all change next year when Campbell’s Market opens its doors for the first time.
Campbell’s will soon break ground thanks to the availability of a $1.58 million loan and grant package, made possible through the coordination of federal, state and private funding.
The federal Healthy Foods Financing Initiative was created in order to reduce the prevalence of so-called food deserts, increasing access to healthy food in both urban and rural communities, and bringing jobs and increased economic activity along with it. Through this program, $2 million was awarded to provide more access to fresh foods across Ohio, with Vinton County at the top of the priority list. These federal dollars -- incorporated into the Healthy Food for Ohio Program and administered by the Finance Fund Capital Corporation -- helped to leverage both private and state funding for this important cause.
Throughout this process, it has been my honor to work with State Representative Ryan Smith, State Senator Bob Peterson, local officials and the Finance Fund, to finally see the Vinton County project come to fruition. It was truly a team effort and I am glad to be among the first to welcome Campbell’s Market to the community!
